Did I call this one right, or what? Nicky confirms that he is indeed afraid that someone will put the kibosh on his new story being published.
He’s pissed that TPIV isn’t selling and is grabbing names at random to accuse of ruining it for him. First it was the rain, then Crazy Michelle, and now Karen. This says he has no clue why it’s not selling. Hint: lousy writing.

I got a new story accepted somewhere but I am not going to say where exactly just yet because too many trolls will try to throw a monkey wrench in that publication just as they did with Sinister Tales. I will say the story is a new one as in written over the summer and working on a brand new story right now as I speak. The other story is one that Karen Koehler will not let you read legitimately because she actively tried to ruin sales of Tabloid Purposes IV when it came out. I will say this much coming back from Gothicfest 2007 I managed to do something new now when I do a few signings in the future. I will provide a copy people can take with them to read but I will say if they like the book it will be theirs for purchase.
I managed to push a lot of copies of Tabloid Purposes IV — one thing that sells the most of are anthologies at a convention setting. The fact that this one sold a lot of copies though I didn’t have that many with me because it came out late in the game. Now I know what to stock for next time. I sold a couple copies of Tabloid Purposes IV at the Cafe Lura show which was cool — I think if I really stocked up on those then I think I might be able to get some authors involved with the project some major exposure.

Now he’s saying that he sold a lot of copies of TP 4, and yet in a previous entry elsewhere, Nicky says he only took two copies with him to the convention.
*headdesk*
First he said he brought two copies to Gothicfest 2007, and sold both. Now he claims he sold “a lot.” And, he says he sold two copies at Cafe Lura, whatever the hell that is.
Assuming these were two different venues, that’s four copies sold. What is obvious is that he can’t afford to purchase many copies of his dreck to sell at any venue, and his authors are getting stiffed because he’s spending all his money buying his own books.
Karen — THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! God, the last thing I’d want would be to get blindsided into accidentally reading anything of his “legitimately.” Talk about a yucky surprise. :: shudder ::
Did I read it correctly? He’s going to first let people sample his work AND THEN tell them they have to purchase it to get the rest? Nick, piece of advice: Keep scamming people into buying your anthos. Don’t give them samples. Because there’s no way you can blame us if someone turns you down to your face. And what will you do if you have no one to blame? slit slit!
Nicky is a full-time blame-gamer, he will always find someone to blame.
I’m not sure how to read that, Shadowtron. He did say “take with them to read.” That implies they may walk off with it. Unless he’s printing copies of a sample story on a Laserjet and stapling them together to give away, that means they can take the whole book.
Sample excerpts have convinced me to buy a book from an author whose work I’ve never read, but those are typically limited to the first few pages of the novel (Knight, Orr, Hawes, Frank), or paragraphs of a short story (Hawkes). They give me a taste of the subject matter, writing style, and whet my appetite for more. I’m a little bummed Broken Angel is on back order.
Sadly, if Nicky gives away even an excerpt of one of his stories as a means of making the reader want to buy and read the rest, it’ll backfire, and some potentially deserving authors will never be read. His stuff reflects badly on everyone else in the anthology if it’s presented as being representative of the collection.
I think Pacione has cornered the “does this taste funny to you? Here, try it and see if it tastes weird or if it’s just me” market of the small press.
Then what the fuck am I going to do if ever I start writing again?
