This came across the transom this afternoon. Is she kidding? I’ve never heard of House of Horror, other than the old movie, before today.
. . . simultaneous submissions are OK but If you have sent your submission to other zines, then please have the courtesy and let me know this AND if it has been accepted somewhere else. Please note: If I accept your story and then you recieve word that someone wants to pay for your story and you try and pull it it, I will not be happy. Once I accept a story then I expect to be able to print it regardless of that fact that this is not a monatary publication. If this does happen, you will be blacklisted and remember, PUBLISHERS TALK! BE WARNED!
No multiple submissions. If you get rejected then yes, send something else in. One submission at a time please and that goes the same for you poets too!!
FAQ
Is House Of Horror a paying market?
Yes and no. We do not pay for the stories in the monthly online version of the magazine, BUT every three months we bring out a special print version filled with our favourtite stories from the past 3 months. If your story is chosen for this then you will be notified.
Stories – $5.00
poems – $3.00
Artwork – $5.00Interviews and book reviews are not paid at the minute.
There are a lot of things wrong with that. It’s a 4theluv, and the woman running it has attitude aplenty, aside from her typos. There is no difference in spelling of the word “monetary” between British, Canadian, and American English. If interviews and reviews are not “paid at the minute,” how are they paid — by the hour? Never mind.
Good going, lady. Cop an attitude with people you aren’t going to pay, even with a contributor copy, and see how many of those submissions roll in from anyone over the age of, oh, say, 15.

Sam
Editor of House Of Horror
If she’s the editor, I feel sorry for anyone who submits a story that she accepts. I’d be embarrassed to have that many typos in a blog entry, let alone submission guidelines.
Does anyone know anything about this market, other than what’s right there on the website for all to read?
Lorry must be excited. A new market s/he can abuse.
Have we got another Nikky to worry about? Sure sounds like it.
I do pity the newbies on whom this witch will feed and destroy. I do hope no one bites on her seemingly tempting offer.
According to Duotrope, this market is less than six months old. It’s perfect for Lorenzo!
Yeah… I think getting blacklisted by said publisher has about as much impact on a writing career as a fart in the wind.
…you will be blacklisted and remember, PUBLISHERS TALK! BE WARNED!
Bullshit.
If she blackballs a writer from her own nano-publication – and she hasn’t the clout to do more than that – she’ll most likely do that writer a favor.
House of Horror is pure waste of time and effort for a serious writer. It’d be a waste of time for a hobbyist too.
Why is it that these people never understand that sloppy presentation, in your guidelines fer chrissake, takes away all credibility. Alternately, if they honestly cannot see the mistakes they have no business setting themselves up as editors.
This is the kind of “credit” one should never, ever mention in public, much less list on a cover letter to a real editor.
