“The Black Cat” isn’t my favorite movie of all time, but it’s up there in the rankings. Karloff. Lugosi. Creepy atmosphere. What’s not to like? Oh, and a cat. A black one. And Poe. Did I mention Poe? Yeah … that guy.
FWIW, my favorite movie ever is an adaptation of a Dashiell Hammett novel. Anyone care to guess which one that is?
Black Cat is a terrific film, Boris & Bela at their best. My guess for your favorite is either the Bogart Maltese Falcon or The Thin Man. Those are both in my top ten. I like the Alan Ladd Glass Key, too, but I haven’t seen the earlier one.
It’s “The Maltese Falcon.” I knew I could count on you for the correct answer, Otter!
Otter beat me to it! My favorite movie alternates between The Usual Suspects and Singing in the Rain depending on my mood. But wonderful movies like Casablanca, The African Queen, and To Kill a Mockingbird are favorites to watch too.
If I had to pick a favorite Kate Hepburn movie, “The African Queen” would be it.
I also loved “The Thin Man.” It’s in my top 10, so, yeah, Otter nailed my taste in movies.
I’m okay with musicals, too. If it’s a classic, I’ll watch it for the umpteenth time.
One of my favorite noir films–and a very under-appreciated one–is Eyes in the Night. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyes_in_the_Night
