Nicky’s latest update to his plea for money from the internet mentions that he will not be getting an increase in SSD (Social Security Disability) next year. Evidently, he thinks of it as being denied an annual raise. Poor baby. How many corporate drones haven’t gotten a raise in years? How many people have lost their full-time jobs during the current administration, and are now either out of work, or had to take part time jobs? The economy sucks beans, no matter how the paid shills in D.C. try to spin it.
The other thing of note is that Nicky seems to think authors are being gypped out of revenue by musicians offering their music on a pay-what-you-want basis. I’d love to know how that works. Perhaps he’s thinking of the songwriters, but what about the rest of the band members? The decision to offer their music on that basis was a group decision, and frankly, it’s none of Nicky’s business how they choose to make it available.
I’m not getting an increase either, but you don’t see me whining like a 2 year old about it. But then I also don’t waste my money on subscriptions to worthless websites and overpriced hoodies.
Amazing. Nicky’s been on welfare so long he feels entitled to an automatic “pay rise” every year as if he has some kind of government job. This is almost as laughable as his persistent demands to be recognized as a “literary genius.” He needs a serious reality check, like getting kicked out of that house and being forced to fend for himself for once. His so called diagnosis that prevents him from ever driving is probably bullshit too. Nicky only claims to be bipolar, which doesn’t preclude people from having a drivers license. What’s the bet he was either too scared of the responsibility of driving around in Big People Land or just exaggerated his mental illness in order to claim more money. I don’t know if people who can’t drive are entitled to more SSD money given the added disadvantages but I’m guessing this second scenario is more likely. If you’ve been deemed competent enough to drive a car then surely the government considers you capable of holding down a job, however menial?
Nicky also lives in the middle of nowhere which may have been an additional factor. Did he just come to the conclusion early on that life would be a lot harder for him if he tried to make a go of it in the real world as an adult with very limited abilities? I’m guessing he did. Once he was settled in grandma’s basement he probably realized he’d lucked into a cushy albeit restricted life where he could just kick back and let others take care of him. Never being able to drive might not have seemed like a big price to pay at the time for someone in their twenties who’d never had a car and didn’t know what they were missing. No doubt he’s long since felt the true extent of his disadvantage and become bitter about it though. Living where he does without a car, even the simplest things such as going to the supermarket to buy groceries is impossible. He can’t even afford to catch cabs. Hence his pathetic online begging for strangers to drive him around.
Unless, as Lepplady pointed out in comments in another entry, he also has a seizure disorder, nothing he claims to have been diagnosed with would preclude him from getting a driver’s license.
I don’t think having or not having one makes any difference to the amount of disability he gets. What will affect it is the amount of any additional income he has, which, by law, he has to report. It’s a little squishy, though, because any real employer that is on the up and up will report it through payroll, but being paid cash under the table, so to speak is much easier to hide.
If he really has legally registered Lake Fossil Press, he’s going to have to file some sort of paperwork on it for tax purposes. We all know he’s incapable of keeping his personal and business finances separate, and keeping the appropriate records. I’d be very surprised if he could even figure out how to use Excel to keep track of revenues and expenses. As it is, he equates sales revenue with profit. Debt isn’t much of an issue for his business, since he has to pay up front for whatever ISBNs and printed copies he orders. If he doesn’t do his own artwork, he cadges it off some poor soul for free. Getting a business loan is completely out of the question for him; he can’t even qualify for a credit card.
He needs an accountant or a book keeper, but they don’t work for free. I could probably handle what little work his ‘business’ would need, but I don’t work for free, and I can’t be bothered. 😀
In many areas, if he’s a sole proprietor with no employees, he can file his “business” as part of his personal taxes. He would be okay on that front. And I doubt that it’s a problem for him, anyway. He doesn’t sell anything, does he?
On the other hand, I think it bears questioning whether or not SSDI knows that he owns a business. Somebody on Social Security can’t have any kind of assets, like ownership of a house or a car, or a business, without affecting his/her payment or eligibility status. Whatever’s going on in somebody’s life that’s on Social Security disability, they have to report it. Change of address, any income, if somebody else that earns income leaves or becomes part of the household, anything.
Has he even notified Social Security that he owns a business? If not, and they find out about it, he could be in big trouble with them. Failure to report any such thing might even render him ineligible. You know, the same way he keeps getting himself kicked off of publishing sites and social media. He could get himself kicked off of his benefits, too.
And maybe he knows it. Maybe that’s why he freaks out so much at the thought of anybody going after his SSN. I don’t think he realizes that he could get reported to SSDI even without his number. All anybody would need is his name and address, and everybody already knows that, anyway.
What in the world would he do without his check? They might have to institutionalize him, after all.
Oh, sorry. I said SSDI. But that’s for people who have WORKED. Has he ever?
I think I meant to say plain old SSI.
I don’t think he registered it as a sole proprietorship. He mentioned getting a separate Tax ID number for it with the IRS. A sole proprietorship would have made the most sense. Someone else came across his announcement, but I can’t remember where it was. He didn’t register LFP as a DBA, either. Whatever the case, I doubt he’s ever filled in any 1040 (or 1040EZ) forms himself. He’s probably not capable of doing so; his math and reading comprehension skills are equally abysmal.
Oh, well. That’s different, then. If he went and got a separate tax id for it, yeah. He’s got to file separate taxes on it.
But that begs back to the question of whether or not Social Security knows even about LFP. If he’s gotten a tax id for it, that DEFINITELY impacts upon his financial standing, eligibility, etc.
He might not just be inept. He might (inadvertently) be committing tax fraud, Social Security fraud, all sorts of naughty little things.
I wonder if he’s reported his imaginary ’employment’ with whatever self publisher he’s using now. If he isn’t letting the government know he’s ‘working’ that can get him in trouble too.
Per-sactly.
Seen this? Nicky has a new story out called The Vital IX which appears to be nothing but a libelous hit piece on Brian Keene.

Yeah, well, my mom is receiving to cost-of-living increase in her Social Security next year and she WORKED for that for decades. So he can just fuck off.
*no cost-of-living increase, that is.
That doesn’t surprise me. Social Security is nothing but a government-run ponzi scheme.
I figure the Feds will keep inching up the age for eligibility as I approach it, and by the time I would have been eligible, it won’t exist anymore. If it does, it might pay for groceries. All that money I was forced to dump into the system over the decades was a waste. It’s already gone. I would have preferred to have the option of keeping it and saving or investing it myself, and opting out of the system.
Oh, I totally expect SS to not exist by the time I’m old enough to collect. In that time, about a quarter century from now, I’ll be surprised if any state benefits exist–or, at least, aren’t radically changed and primarily useless to the working class.
I also plan benefits won’t exist when I stop working and focus on other investment routes for retirement. Or it’ll be such a low payout it isn’t worth planning for. Getting that statement years ago stating there isn’t enough money to cover full projected payments at my retirement date was enough for me. Now that they are online I bet most people don’t check or notice that language is still there.
Like you I predict by the time I retire the age for any benefits is going to be much higher. I’ll likely be dead by then.
Heaven forbid though Nicky not get an increase next year in his check.
What gets to me about Nicky is he *could* work if he took his meds regularly, got off the internet, and had some structure in his life. He’s not that mentally retarded. He could clean floors and toilets, if nothing else, and didn’t think himself above the tasks.
“Heaven forbid though Nicky not get an increase next year in his check.”
Does SS reduce payments if the Consumer Price Index goes down the past year relative to the previous?
[evil] Wouldn’t it be horrible if some meanie faked up a notice to Nickolaus that there was a mistake and his payment was going to be adjusted down?[/evil]
Never ever again. No $80 burka for his classmate’s research project. No $300 Morticia hobble dress for the Lake Fossil Press mascot photo shoot. Oh, the humanity!
“We review Social Security benefits each year to make sure they keep up with the cost of living. The law does not permit an increase in benefits when there is no increase in the cost of living. So your benefit will stay the same in 2016. There was no increase in the cost of living during the past year based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published by the Department of Labor. The CPI is the Federal government’s official measure used to calculate cost of living increases.”
No extra coal for any of us Bob Cratchits this season. Bah, hunchback.
Pacione makes it sound like it is a personal tragedy and he is the only victim.
He should be thankful cost of living has been more or less stable.
As usual, Nickypoo makes everything about himself. Yawn.
