Verizon continues to screw up. I got an email last night from them thanking me for returning my equipment, confirming that they got it, etc. What? We kept our old equipment, moved it here with us, and after the tech got done installing the basement box that connects the rest of the house with the incoming line (the previous owners weren’t supposed to take it with them, but they did), I figured we were good for the time being.
The following day, I ordered a new HD STB for our new TV, got it last week, and self-installed it. Works fine; it’s not rocket science to hook it up and let it run through its paces to register and boot.
The good news is that our internet, phone, and TV still all work fine.
I pity the person who thinks he/she returned the eqpt., and is expecting some sort of credit on the bill. So far, my bill hasn’t been screwed up, but I’ll give it another couple of months, just in case.
On another subject, we voted this morning. I’ve never seen lines that long, ever, at our polling station. Typically, two or three people are in line ahead of me. This time around, the line stretched out the door, and snaked around the church yard. It means people really do care this time around. Hillbot may win our state, which would totally suck, but I can rest assured that my choices down ballot will win.
I voted around 11AM and there was no line, but they were expecting a rush during the lunch hour and after 5PM.
I’m just praying that, for the sake of the rest of the world, that orange fucking racist sexist idiot who is apparentlt due in court on child sex charges in a couple of months anyway fails dismally.
If he gets in its bye bye planet. If his tactics in the election and their parallels with a certain German world leader’s techniques from the 1930’s are anything to go by, he will cause wwiii sooner rather than later.
Kudos for the Godwin, Marc.
Godwin’s law doesn’t hold when the tecgniquesused exactly mirror the nazis. The guy is a fascist and the world could well be in the deepest shit ever.
phrased slightly better, and hopefully looking like I typed with my fingers and not my elbows – Godwins Law doesn’t apply when discussing actual fascists.
Marc, c’mon. You were all verklempt about Brexit, and afaik, the British Isles haven’t floated off somewhere within the Arctic Circle. I get it that the EU wants to drag out Brexit as long as possible to exctract what it can from the British purse. Aside from the referendum that passed there, Brexit hasn’t happened yet. Neither has Trump’s inauguration. and this was a real election. FWIW, our stock markets rallied on Wednesday.
Actually Brexit still needs to be debated by parliament before it can happen as the referendum is only advisory so theres a slim chance it won’t happen. However our currency is almost the weakest its ever been, most major banks and several of the largest multinational manufacturers are making plans to leave if we do which will cause possibly hundreds of thousands of redundancies. Its not definitely happening but the shitstorm the experts all told us would happen is brewing nicely on the horizon.
Trump campaigned on a basis of scapegoating Mexicans, muslims, women and anyone else he didnt like. He took the piss out of a handicapped journalist. The guy is total scum who should not be in the position hes in.
My facebook feed is filling with reports of racist, islamist and homophobic attacks in the US by Trump supporters using the election result as validation for their vile actions.
I have read about the investment bankers threatening to pull out of London in favor of Paris. Maybe it’ll happen; maybe it won’t. In the meantime, they’re continuing to make money. If that threat was serious, my financial advisor at Alliance would have beamed out an email about it. Wait and see.
Definitely with Marc on this one. Neither of our choices were wonderful this year, but I’d always given America credit for more good will — and good sense — than to elect this guy. This is a far uglier country than I’d dreamed… and I live in one of the nastiest parts of it. I recently watched The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, and it mirrors Trump’s campaign almost exactly…. and like Marc said, Godwin be damned, it’s just the truth. America has made a very, very bad mistake, and we better make some noise against it so the rest of the world knows we don’t all buy into it. We’ll never have our shining-city-on-the-hill standing in the world again after this bad choice. I understand partisan differences, but even Republicans shouldn’t be on board with this, just because ya hate Hillary. This isn’t just like if Romney or McCain had won or something. or when W was in office. I wouldn’t have been thrilled with that, but at least they’re a legitimate, sane, responsible people who I could be trust to keep the country going even if they weren’t great for it, and wouldn’t have emboldened our worst citizen’s worst instincts. If nothing else, at least they had attention spans and understood the gravity of the office they held. W made some terrible mistakes, like Iraq, but he at least had SOME restraint. Trump has none.
Trump is actually mentally ill, and dangerous. I’ve worked under pathological narcissists before, and they are disasters who flame out early after causing a lot of damage. Trump is needy and can be manipulated by anybody who flatters him, and that’s already happening with Putin. And Trump has ruined his own fortune again and again and again… I don’t know why anyone would trust the economy to, essentially, a bad gambler.
I just hope he abdicates most of the actual governing to Pence. I don’t like Pence, either — he’s a theocrat who wants to meddle in everyone’s lives — but at least he’s not a lunatic overgrown toddler and would have some understanding of the consequences of actions.
I’ll hope for the best, but these are dark times. Darker than we know, whatever your political persuasion. Watch your investments, and look out for your neighbors.
