I am not in the habit of quoting from random strangers’ blogs, but this came over the wire, and is noteworthy.
Well, I’ve met a writer (online meeting) and his horror writing prose is unbelievable. It’s some of the best I’ve ever read.
[. . .]
OK, he’s now inspired me to keep going, I’ve finished the third chapter of my second book.
For all I know, she’s a very sweet woman, but if she thinks Pacione’s writing skill and output are awesome, she can’t be too bright. Wait until she meets the wrath of Pacione!
The last sentence of that quotation cobbles together two sentences with a comma, the way Pacione does. It’s written on a blog, but still, it pays to give it a skim before hitting the “publish” button. I’m afraid the title of her blog says it all about where her writing career is most likely destined to go.
Self-publishing has a place. It’s useful for things like postcards and calendars that would never be sold beyond family and friends, or for printing photo albums of a family reunion for holiday gifts.
I hope she comes to her senses about Pacione; she’s no teenager, ripe for the picking, like most of his “fans.”
I’ve self published a dictionary of my world. It’s not something ever intended as a commercial thing, just trying to make it easier for people to understand what is going on if they start in the middle of a series or what not.
the online version of the compendium gets a lot of attention.
I’m glad you did. When I first got started reading your work, I did come into the middle of it. There were so many characters and locations in Daverana that I got lost trying to keep track of them.
I seldom need to refer to it now, but it’s a superb compendium. Bravo! I’m sure I’m not the only reader who’s made much use of it.
Oh dear, that poor woman.
Kiss of death :o(
“It’s some of the best I’ve ever read.”
Would LOVE to know what she reads!
Apparently Ms Leanard took exception to our warnings about Nick and deleted the blog. Either that, or realized she stepped in a huge-ass cow pie and excused herself long enough to wipe it off her shoes.
Now I wish I had clicked that link before she deleted it…
I’m sorry I didn’t grab a screen capture. I half expected her to delete the comments, but not the entire entry.
She over-reacted. That is a frequent reaction among sensitive people. Get rid of it all so you don’t have to think about it. I feel sorry for her.
I emailed her linking her to the rusty nail, and suggested she check out everything that Nickolaus Pacione has been up to for a couple of years now, and the possible career suicide she would be commiting if she were to pursue a “business relationship” with him. (Not that I knew if that was indeed going on. I figured she should be warned.)
I’m more of a mind to believe that her comments in her blog were based on the sheer number of “books” Pacione has out there, and she was more impressed with how prolific he was, and not necessarily based her opinions on the quality per se. After a short reply from her, I’d say she should be cut some slack. She’s a new writer, and even though it wasn’t discussed if Pacione had actually solicited her to work on one of his anthologies, I get the impression that it is entirely possible that he might have begun to work her over.
At any rate, you can’t expect everyone who is just starting out to know who or what Pacione is about, especially when he does have so much stuff out there. (Read: so much CRAP out there!)
Here’s a partial excerpt from the email:

Thank you so much for this information! I have deleted my blog entry about him completely.
I had no idea, I’ve received other warnings but none as detailed as yours. Thanks so
much for taking the time to help me.
That’s interesting, JustAFriend. I pointed her to Nick’s own Blogspot blog in her comments, but did not take the time to email her.
Thanks for sharing that intelligence. I interpret it as meaning she basically freaked. After all, she never gets comments on her entries, then all of a sudden four on one entry appear from nowhere.
Yes, it WOULD freak me out. Especially once I realised what possible dangers I could have exposed myself to…if it had been me.
I think some of you have judged her a little harshly though. She’s new, and being from the same area as I was born, I can understand her innocent naivete. Most of you have been around the block and have also dealt with Pacione numerous times in the past. I just wanted to come to her defense.
