I love this internet radio station. Around the holidays, I started listening because Valyn’s one of the DJs. The other DJs proved to be fantastic, as well. Besides Valyn, I particularly like HappyCamper, Bree, KMile, and Hitman. Their playlists have so much of the stuff that I have only on vinyl, which plays like a bowl of rice krispies on my old Onkyo turntable.
The keychain thingy in the picture is part of a package of goodies I won in a contest for guessing the name of a Status Quo song that KMile was playing during the New Year’s party marathon.
What’s so great about this station is that even if the request lines are closed, you can still contact the DJ via IM. I seldom do that, but it’s a nice option.
And, now for the obligatory garden porn picture, behind the cut . . .
The weird thing to the right that looks like it’s planted in rocks is a Pachypodium — a special frilly top that’s grafted to an ordinary pachypodium bottom/root. I got it from Dave at Cactus Limon in San Diego. For obvious reasons, he ships his plants bareroot. If I kill that pachy, someone shoot me.
Some people have “dealers.” I do too — it’s just that mine sell orchids or cacti. 😉
Those “rocks” are diatomite. Diatomite makes a really cool “sizzing” noise when it gets watered. It’ll hold enough water to not kill the plant, but drains really quickly, which is good for cacti, and many of the orchids I keep around. The niftiest thing about diatomite is that it can be reused after a run through the dishwasher, in a colander, with a plate on top, so it doesn’t escape and clog the drain.
