It’s not even Halloween yet, and we’ve got a nice snowstorm. I still have a few Cymbidiums on the patio. They can handle a light frost, but a hard one will kill them. Most years, I can leave them out until Thanksgiving. That doesn’t seem to be the case this year.
I like snow, but this ain’t Fargo.
Fuck. Now the brownouts are starting to happen. If we lose power, it probably won’t be out for more than four hours. I knew I should have coughed up a couple grand last summer to buy a generator, and have it installed.
This has become a branch-snapper. The birch can bend with it, but the oaks and ash cannot. We’re going to get rid of the birch next spring, and put in some variety of Japanese Maple that stays small. Right now, we’re looking at firing up Vaal, our chipper/shredder.
That’s why I live in Tennessee. I’ve been driving around town with the top down all day. It’s a mite cool, but not enough to put the top up, if I have a light jacket on.
Next time I get down to the Nashville area, may I hitch a ride with you? I’m not being facetious. I want a ride in that car. Please, please, pretty please?
Sure. Let me know when. 🙂
Yeah, we got hit pretty hard too. I slipped and fell on my ass bringing in groceries, LOL! Nothing like a sopping bottom!
It’s not even pretty snow either. Just heavy, wet, slushy shit. I hate it.
Ouch! That’s going to hurt for the next three days.
I’m actually *from the general vicinity of Fargo (close enough to know that the movie ain’t actually fiction, at least), and even I have my limits as regards the cold.
Most of my flora is now in for the winter, notwithstanding any freak warm days that might appear by chance in the next month or so. Sure hope most of it can hold out till the spring comes again.
North Dakota’s one of the few states I’ve never been to, but I’m pretty familiar with western Minnesota. Rural, I like, but I’d prefer to not dress like the Michelin man for more than four months a year, and the idea of having to drive half an hour to get groceries or lumber is not too appealing.
I read the story about all the snow back east on MSN this morning. It said the storm knocked out power for about 3 million people. Hope you guys back there are all doing OK.
We haven’t had snow here yet. The sun just crested the hill by our house about 20 minutes ago, and we’ve got a really pretty frost on the grass. The trees in our neighborhood are all yellows and reds right now. The sky is blue. Very pretty.
I’m *not* ready for snow yet.
We never actually lost power, but we’ve had quite a few dips in voltage. Mostly, it just made the lights flicker a lot. Occasionally, it was enough to make the modem reset itself, and the computer reboot. I’m sure Nicky would call it paranormal, and write some idiotic story like Apt. 2W about it.
Like most nor’easters, it blew through in less than a day. It’s just that this time of year, they usually bring torrential rain, not snow. I’m convinced the township (or county, not sure which) hired some 17 year old to run the snowplow in our neighborhood. Whoever was driving that thing didn’t seem to have a grip on raising and lowering the plow. The bumping, thumping, crashing and grinding coming from the intersection were not normal.
For once no power outage here, but just lots of wet, slushy stuff that made it easy to slip and fall on. Ugh. Snow before Halloween…really?!
Don’t let the winter in, baby.
