Our new next door neighbors hosted a 10th anniversary party this afternoon. The guy knows the previous owner, because he used to be the caretaker at the B&B the previous owner has a couple of miles down the road. A couple of weeks ago, they invited us to the party, but I’d never met them, their kids, or their dogs until today.
We brought over a magnum of French Chenin Blanc as a hostess gift. Turns out they have a large extended family and quite a few friends. There must have been 50-60 people there, and all the kids were occupied swimming in the pool, or doing the zip line in the side hill. It was fantastic getting a chance to meet so many of them.
Turns out more than one of their relatives turned down our driveway at one time or another, and had to turn around when they realized they were at the wrong place. Pfft. It happens fairly regularly.
There was enough food there to feed an army. Some homemade, some catered, and some pot luck. These people are so nice. The guy’s mom and grandpa live with them. The woman’s mother lives elsewhere in the area.
Before we knew they were moving in, we had asked the previous owner if he’d be around and willing to take in our dog for a few days while we drove halfway across the country and back for a family member’s memorial service. Instead of letting us know, the previous guy took it upon himself to ask the next guy, and the answer was “Sure, no problem.” Whoa!
So, today, our dog was invited along with us to the party. He gets along fine with their three dogs, and made a whole lot of new human friends today, too. We’d have been prepared to cart him away if he didn’t behave himself, but it wasn’t necessary.
All in all, it was a nice afternoon.
