I received a Google alert right before I was ready to catch some shuteye last night. Too tired to do any digging at the time, I decided to let it wait until this morning.
It appears that some artsy-fartsy Romanian site is running a reprint of Pacione’s “Library of Bones” in its most recent “weekly” edition. Weekly is in quotes for several reasons. Let’s just say that sixteen issues since September 2008 doesn’t qualify as weekly. The following was posted December 7, 2009:
For the literature section of our Gothic issue we have selected the works of two rather unknown writers, Jim Roberts and Nickolaus A. Pacione as well as three of the works of the so well regarded Edgar Allen Poe.
[. . .]
Below, you will see the download links for the six writings chosen for this issue in our Literature section. Enjoy your read.
[Note that all these writings have been downloaded from www.HorrorMasters.com]
I wonder if Pacione knows about this. It’s almost a shame that he’s rarely online anymore. Surely he would post a rant about how his copyright was molested.
Poking around the MonDaily site a little bit gave hints that the site isn’t run by a buddy of Pacione’s. Never mind that Pacione was described as “rather unknown.” The person running the site made a reference to attending a photography show in Bucharest, and consistently treats the word “news” as plural (as in “the bad news are . . .”). The grammatical errors aren’t the sloppy conversational type often made by people whose first language is English.
The reference to Bucharest isn’t enough to confirm Romania by itself, but a check on the IP address of the site leads to a host that has registered over 100 sites in Romania, and runs off a server bank in The Netherlands. Alexa had no information on the site’s registration date, but tracking back through three pages worth of blog entries on the site, produced an entry from Sept. 9, 2009, announcing its one year anniversary.
It’s rather odd that the link to MonDaily’s “About” page leads nowhere, but not altogether unexpected for a site from a formerly communist bloc country. It’s funny enough that the entire online magazine issue is comprised of stuff swiped from Horrormasters.com. It’s even funnier that MonDaily didn’t just link to the stories there, but rehosted the .pdfs itself. I just can’t see Nicky giving the site owner permission to do that, given that he has a cow every time someone quotes a sentence of his, with attribution, under Fair Use.
Well folks, that was my source of amusement for the day.
*snerk*
What better way to round off a second bout of Swine flu than some Pacione news 🙂
“rather unknown writer”? I nearly choked on that bit.
I’ll asked again, for the sakes of lulz, DO THESE PEOPLE NOT RESEARCH!?
Hell yes, everyone wants a Pacione story on these website!
Oh dear. Sorry to hear that you got the flu again, Vern. Here — have a glass of hot cocoa and a chocolate chip cookie. Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks Rusty 🙂
Struck me down last weekend and only really just getting over it. Worst than the first time I had it.
It managed to put my good lady in bed for a week as well, something that I’ve never seen in the six years we’ve been together.
Still, back to normaility and work tomorrow. Cheers for the cocoa!
First of all, I will give you the confirmation you need: I am from Romania but that isn’t an explanation for why the About page isn’t working [the link for the about page is on the fixed bottom bar – Information, the About Art on the top menu, is not intended to be a button, but a mere slogan] so there was no communist-rooted intention to withhold any information regarding that site. I don’t know whether Nickolaus Pacione knows about this or not be if he were to have something against this I would like nothing more that to talk to him myself and reach a certain compromise regarding this. His story was downloaded from Horrormasters and not directly linked towards it for the simple and only reason of avoiding bandwidth theft from Horrormasters. I have clearly stated the source of the writing, the content is intact and the article contains reference to author. Why did I use the “rather unknown” idiom to describe Nickolaus Pacione? Because, although he is very known among certain groups, to the general public he is not as known as Edgar Allen Poe, another author featured in that same article and I must say that this is a shame as I have read “Library of Bones” and I was very impressed by it. To reply to your “not so weekly weekly magazine” well, I know but please understand that there is only me, one guy behind it all, one guy that has to go to college and work at the same time and I really want to keep that site going because of the passion that I started it with. Ever since the beginning I knew I would miss some Mondays but I still started it and even with the lots of hosting problems [that bank in the Netherlands really isn’t that good] I still kept picking up the pieces every time and started all over again. And lastly, no, English is not my native language, Romanian is, and I sincerely thank you for drawing those errors to my attention.
Horror Masters hosts a lot of public domain/free stories, and while they have a nice collection of older stuff, NP is in there for some reason (he must have submitted it to them).
I imagine this guy just pulled random stories from there and offered them, and that’s about as complex as it gets.
Pacione submitted that story to Horror Masters years ago, and knows full well it’s there. He even threw a hissy fit or two, accusing people of “molesting” his copyrights for quoting passages from it, and threatening them for doing so. It’s a really good bet, though, that he knows nothing about this Romanian site.
I’d be curious to know whether he’d be more pissed off about having his entire story swiped, or about being called a “rather unknown writer.” Either way, it would have made for some good fireworks, back in the old days.
Very true. And it would have been even funnier if they’d posted something like Eye in the Shadows or whatever that was called.
Not the latter, Rusty. My observations have been that you can sit there and insult the shit out of him, be it email, some website, etc. but the very second you touch anything he has created, well then he’s a raging goth monkey. Seriously that pisses him off more than anything.
That’s only partly true, Al. He tries to get sites shut down that insult him. Generally, he’ll cite a TOS violation, such as copyright infringement, to the admin, who really doesn’t know anything about Fair Use, and sometimes gets suckered into complying with Pacione’s demands without bothering to do any homework on the issue. Yet, if the site owner posts complimentary stuff about him, he’s tickled pink, and crows about it.
Does anyone know what’s actually happened to Nicky now? He’s been awfully quiet since the last batch of crazy he pulled out. It’s like… “long time, no sea, sailor”. Did they stick him in a ward or something? I honestly have no idea what happened to him after the last batch of lol.
I was just going through my dictaphone for work-related issues the other week and rediscovered…. certain items. ;D
I was gonna ask you that autoaim. Ant said you two did some behind-the-scenes lulz and scared him off the net. I begged one of you to email me the details.
Rusty you’re right but overall, he’s more inclined to become enraged if you review, alter, destroy or distribute his work. If you go back and see his angriest moments, it was things he created he would flip over more than anything.
1) lbobme posted links to all of his stories from the first Tabloid Purposes, which gave us “I’M GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU!”
2) Horrorgal reviewed one of his works, and he threatened to kill her and burn down her house.
3) Someone got a hold of “An Eye In Shadows” a day before it went on sale, and within a few hours everyone on odark had it. OH man his rant the day after was amazing. Death threats all around plus a link to a virus.
4) ExposeTheTard posted a link to a review of an unreleased story of his (AngryInIllinois?) he flipped out on Angry’s deviantart, but when the same mystery donor asked on ETT if people wanted to see Nicky’s other unreleased story, another furious death threat (I love those lololol)
What else…OH he’d mention in a sentence or two if someone made a parody video of him on youtube, but the book burnings nearly sent him over the edge.
I don’t know what’s happened to Nikita, but I doubt he’s been committed to a long term mental facility. He’d been silent for a long time until about a month ago, when ETT caught a flurry of activity, and posted about it. I caught his blither about the book signing at a bar, but I’ve no idea where he made his post(s) about wanting to buy and reopen that nightclub/bar in Joliet.
The book burnings did nearly send him over the edge, but I thought the rubber ducky incident was funnier, on the whole, for the simple reason that his reaction was far more disproportionate to the provocation (if you can even call it that).
Actually, his death threats weren’t for a review (although he did hate the ones with Todd Hollins). One day, he accidentally set the download price of two of his books on Lulu to $0.00. I downloaded them and posted about it. He accused me of e-piracy, demanded I delete them from my hard drive, and then made the death threats, which got his Xanga closed down.
(Wow…I just checked the date on those entries and that all happened in June of 2007. Where do the years go?)
I, too, have been wondering what happened to Nicky. It’s been a while since he poked his head out of that outhouse he calls a basement.
Dagstine’s Christmas update is a LAUGH.
“To all my fans and followers…” he says.
WTF? Is he a cult leader now?
Seriously. What fans?
Followers maybe, following for the lulz. But fans?
Muahahahahaa.
Yeah, I saw that entry, but haven’t gotten around to dissecting it yet. It is pretty obvious that he’s giving his son a bunch of toys he wishes he’d gotten when he was a kid.
I should extend my apologies to MonDaily for not noticing his or her comment before this morning. It got stuck in my moderation queue, as do all first time comments from new readers.
If you want to contact Nicky, MD, you could try his gmail address: npacione (at) gmail (dot) com. He’s splashed it all over the internet, so I’m not giving away a secret by posting it. In a nutshell, he’s a homophobe, misogynist, and a mentally ill man-child with a sub-par IQ, who has a habit of harassing and sending death threats to people who don’t recognize him for the tortured genius author he fancies himself to be. His Encyclopedia Dramatica page is hilarious. His death threats and e-stalking . . . not so much.
MonDaily: You can scroll back up and read my incredibly brief list of his death threats to people. That is…what guys…about 1% of his antics?
Rusty I understand that there are those who take his death threats seriously, and many up until the point they realize he doesn’t have the physical capacity to harm anyone, are actually unnerved by them.
Me myself I’ve always laughed at sudden furious rage (that’s why I love the Tube Bar tapes with Red) yet I can see where others don’t think it’s so funny.
Our first conversation was when I emailed him a cover of his first book that I had corrected (“A Collection Of Shitty Stories” or something like that) and asked him how grateful he was for my work. He threatened to cut my head off. I lol’d.
He doesn’t have the physical capability of reaching much higher than my kneecaps, but I can’t help feeling for the people getting all those midnight calls from the greasy midget, accusing them of being me or ETT.
Rusty, I had a feeling that was the case and you didn’t simply block my comment, so no worries. Thank you for approving it in the end. I can understand your reaction towards his attitude regarding these things, but aren’t you taking all this a little bit too far? [granted, I have no idea what he has done to you in the past, so you might have every right to]
As for the death threats, name callings and everything else you said are expected from him, well, in some of the cases described by you AlKilyu, he was somewhat entitled to do so. Leaking his newest writing before publishing it himself was something almost any writer would have disagreed with [ok, maybe not everyone would have gone all the way to death threats, but nevertheless, nobody would have been happy about that, that’s for sure]. The thing is, I haven’t done that, I simply mentioned him and one of his writings and linked to it so that more people would read his work, and to be honest, not one single artist that has been featured on my site so far has complained about that, as it is only done in their benefit. As I said before, I meant no disrespect towards Nickolaus Pacione when I said “rather unknown” and I hope he wasn’t offended by my saying that. Anyway, I really respect him as a writer although I admit I know nothing about him as a person, but that doesn’t make him a bad writer. On MonDaily.com he, just as any other artist, has been featured because of his artistic nature, not his “homophobic, misogynistic” character, as you say he is Rusty. Perhaps you are right, but that is not my business.
I agree 100%. Especially those who didn’t know when they got those calls who they were actually dealing with.
autoaim avenged many people while teaching him what it felt like to get those. I agreed with ETT he shouldn’t have gotten shit for them (besides they were hilarious). I’m still shocked that when he finally had a chance to call me, after everything, he didn’t. I was shocked at who called but honestly no matter who it was I full-on expected him on the other line.
MonDaily I can understand you not knowing everything that has gone on, all that he has done (we didn’t even scratch the surface) and not knowing what kind of person he is, however you saying
“I really respect him as a writer”
frankly makes me think you are in the wrong business as you apparently have no concept of good writing or writers. Seriously. I’m not trying to be harsh but you should find another line of work. Think of it like this: If someone read a food critic’s review, and the critic raved about a plate of delicious southern fried dog shit he ate, I sure as hell am not going to respect his opinion after that nor would I read anything else he wrote, or sample anything he suggested.
P.S. In the day and age of the internet, there’s no excuse for anyone, especially one who runs a WEBSITE, to claim they know nothing about an online personality. That’s another mark against you: You have never heard of Google or know how to use it.
(btw if this is a troll, it is a damn fine one who has earned my respect!)
AlKilyu, haven’t you ever read something you considered to be so great while someone else thought it was purely disastrous as a writing? Haven’t you seen a movie that you regarded as “one of the best” while someone else thought it wasn’t even worthy of being called a “movie”? Writings, movies, paintings, songs or any other outcome of an artistic mind [self-called or acknowledged by others, how it may be] are understood in a different matter by all their readers/watchers/listeners. I mentioned N.P.’s Library of Bones on my site for the simple reason that the overall setting, the symbols used in it and last but certainly not least, the feeling you have throughout the reading of that short story fits the theme of that issue in some way. If people consider it poorly written or not appropriate for the certain theme, everybody is welcome to speak their minds given that they have supporting arguments for their theory. Don’t alter my words, I never said I, myself, knew nothing about N.P. . I did research him [granted, not too much] and I did read some badmouthing posts to his address but that did not make me decided against featuring him. Like I said before, those are his personal problems and I have nothing to do with them. I can assure you that more than 90% of the people that visit my site and read that article have no idea who N.P. is. Regarding my not hearing about Google or knowing how to use it, indeed. In the almost one year working for one of its subsidiaries in charge with the improvement of their search results, they told us nothing about using it.
“AlKilyu, haven’t you ever read something you considered to be so great while someone else thought it was purely disastrous as a writing?”
Sure I’ve disagreed with someONE else regarding someone’s work, but not the entire world. Nicky has two people in this world that enjoy his work: You and him. I’m not just talking taste, I’m talking on a technical level…good writers follow a set of rules that include grammar, spelling, etc. that he has no concept of and no, him not following the rules does not an avant garde piece make. Here’s a hint: He has been doing this for over a decade and gotten no where. If he were as good as you say wouldn’t he be published?
“last but certainly not least, the feeling you have throughout the reading of that short story fits the theme of that issue in some way.”
It’s been a while since I read it… Is the piece about eating glass while your eyes are being dug out of your skull by two flaming dildos? ‘Cause that’s the “feeling” I have throughout the reading of that piece.
You indicate you are well versed with Google? Do just a tad more searching and see what happens to the reputations of people who support him like you. It obliterates them. 100% of those that did eventually turn on him and his work and rue the day they ever supported him. It’s not a matter of if you’ll do the same, it’s when.
Rusty have you checked that IP to make sure that isn’t someone screwing with us? They are awesome if that’s the case lol
That’s not the case, I assure you. I have no reason to pretend I am someone else. I get it, he is everything this says he is. What I don’t get is what do you have to gain through all this bad publicity your throwing at him? Supporting him then turning on him? Mate, I have no idea who this person is so, why would I do either? Creating blogs to badmouth him, him responding by creating a blog to badmouth those blog, this is indeed amusing until a certain level when it all becomes, well, a bit stupid [I am referring strictly to the situation and not to someone involved in this game]. It is your thing, not mine and I wish you all good luck with whatever your goal is. I am not going to take either sides and I consider this matter closed. Happy holidays!
MonDaily,
If Pacione received any criticism of his work, he accused the critic of piracy and made death threats. When he was a member of the Horror Writers’ Association, he used information in the membership database to stalk and harass other writers. He has continually made libelous and slanderous accusations against many people. His publishing “ventures” are notorious for not paying writers and working without contract.
Plus there’s the fact that his English is about a hundred times worse than yours, and he’s a native born speaker. Think about that for a moment.
Some battles must be fought. This was one of them.
Do you have proof to sustain those accusations regarding his “publishing ventures”?
Ask Pacione why Tabloid Purposes II is unavailable. He got his Lulu storefront temporarily taken down by Lulu over copyright infringement issues with TP2 and TP4. He ran an author’s stories in those two books without her permission, nor payment. He went ballistic on the author, then reformatted and re-released TP4 without her story, but never bothered doing the same with TP2.
Check out this page for the original lineup (scroll most of the way down the page). Note which author isn’t in TP2 or TP4.
MonDaily, Pacione harassed and threatened my then under age daughter in an attempt to terrorize her simply because she was my daughter.
He accused me all over the net of plagairizing him and used a short story to make his case, called The Fandom Writer.
However, since he was just trying to hurt me, he had assumed that I was a horror author. I write fantasy.
The story of what happened is scattered all across the web and can be found very easily.
Then he spent six years attacking me and my child at every opportunity.
My crime was to suggest he get a copy of STrunk and White.
I would like to suggest that MonDaily has an insufficient grasp of the English language to recognize the problems with Nicky’s story.
Bodi (Dutch) has said that it reads like someone who does not have English as a native speaker. So therefore the construction of the sentences might appear to be better to someone who is a non-native speaker of our language.
Nickolaus Pacione’s “Library of Bones” has been removed from Mondaily.com [helping me make this decision was cussedness’s comment telling me about the threats to his daughter and the fact that his writing on some of his blogs is indeed disastrous]. Cussedness, there is a difference between sentence construction in day to day or official writings and artistic writings, this being the reason why I did not regard some of the phrases in Library of bones as being grammatically flawed. Now AlKilyu will say that I did turn on him and he was right it was only a matter of when. I did no such thing. I would have never featured him knowing that he threatened a girl [her being underage is somewhat irrelevant] and I still haven’t found that with google, so that’s not the problem either. Rusty, I wish you all the best with this blog that draws people together for the sole reason of making N.P. realize something he doesn’t even starts to think about.
Oh, come on now, people. MonDaily is obviously just lulzy troll. There is no way in neither heaven nor hell that any mentally reasonably competent person would hold those opinions after spending a few minutes looking up Nicky Pacione online. The fact that Nicky Pacione honestly is a nasty mentally challenged individual with severe delusions, rage issues beyond belief and a complete inability to function in the normal world is pretty much obvious to anyone taking a couple of minutes to check him out.
At least I think we can safely say that MonDaily isn’t Nicky himself, because he managed to write five posts without spelling and sounding like a crazed chimpanzee on LSD, which is typical of what happens whenever Pacione gets his hand on a keyboard.
And also, he didn’t make furious death-threats against anyone while writing his posts. ;D
P.S. Sorry, AlKilyu, I really cannot say. I have my reasons. It’s better this way, trust me.
Speaking of that auto I wish you were around during the early days, because you would have seen instances of him trying to pretend to be other people. I won’t go into it because I have repeated it so many times in the past, but if you made a Top 10 list of his lulziest moments, wehatepacione is in the top 5. Damn it to hell that was hilarious. Yes he’s tried a few other times to use alts, and it always fails. When he was kicked off of xanga the first time, a “helpful fan” who just happened to write exactly like him updated us on Nicky’s life. Can you believe that he actually titled the alt “Twin Dummy”?!?! No, seriously.
http://heaven-in-black.livejournal.com/
Then there was that reporter who sprung up a year ago look to decide which side to take, and surprisingly took his. Sadly Daggy has more mental capacity than Nicky (I know, not saying much) and he’s just as obvious with his alts too.
It’s okay I don’t need to know aa. I trust you. I’ll let it slide if you repost your calls to Nicky somewhere again. ;D
btw I’m never ashamed when I fall for a troll like MonDaily. I’m too faithful to lulz to ever get butthurt when someone has played the game well.
MD definately isn’t Pacione. Pacione isn’t bright enough to consistently trace back to Eastern Europe, even if he could figure out how to use a proxy server (and had the patience to do so). MD’s grasp of English is also far superior to Pacione’s, despite not being able to recognize how mangled Nicky’s sentence structure is. Besides, if Nikita’s family had let him back on the internet, we’d have known about it before now.
I didn’t know he was restrained again. I saw ETT had his postings…unless he was re-banned?
You saying Europe reminded me of something else: Autoaim got Nicky to admit he wasn’t a full-blooded Italian! Forgot about that win.

http://www.tindeck.com/search?q=nicky
Enjoy your blast from the past.
Just posted links to the .mp3’s on tindeck, AlKilyu. Pending moderation… because the post contain links, I imagine.
Anyway, regarding the search result (included in the post). I must say, I really enjoyed MASSIVENESS. Whoever he is, he’s talented.
Actually, a quick fix (since the links are still in moderation) is that you can just go to tindeck dot com and do a search for the keyword “nicky” there. You’ll get three hits. Enjoy.
THANK YOU SIR!
Good sir those links work perfectly fine no need for searchings. In fact the calls start playing way quicker than expected.
