This morning, Rick Moore posted a blog entry that his White Cat Publishing, LLC, has purchased Sams Dot Publishing. I’m not completely sure what to think of this. Sams Dot used to publish Lawrence Dagstine’s dreck. I don’t think it still does, but I’m not sure. For those of you who haven’t been reading TRN for years, “Dagswine” was the guy who claimed to have driven across state lines a few years ago to stalk me, and left comments on my blog about his exploits. He talked about spilling his coffee on his lap when I walked out of the house. Funny, ’cause at the time, I pretty much came and went from the house through my garage, and that neighborhood enforced its no on-street parking laws with a vengeance. Either the neighbors or the cops would have told him to “move along, son.”
Wasn’t there some sort of nonsense about Tyree Campbell not paying royalties to authors when he ran Blu Phi’er? I don’t trust Mr. Campbell, so I’m not sure how this is going to work out, with Rick hiring him.
Michael L. Bernoudy is the owner of Blu ph’ier, not Tyree. Tyree made some mistakes in his youth that have come back to haunt him 40 years later. Rather than lose Sams Dot, he sold it to Rick. Sams Dot is one of Dagstine’s EX publishers, who got caught up in that mess over reprints. over the last year I have had many many long conversations with Rick about Tyree and with Tyree. I I’m convinced this is a positive thing, not a negative one
Alright, this is good news, and thanks for filling me in, Janrae. I really appreciate it.
Sams Dot has published both crap and great things. Sure, you heard about the Dagstine book, but what about somebody talented like poet Bryan Thao Worra? There are many good people and many bad people who had Sams Dot Books. You can’t damn the entire press for a few shitty books with some craptastic writers like Dagstine. If anything, Sams Dot was trying to do too many things for too many people.
That said, I don’t know the details of this deal. I have been hiding under or rock for a very, very, long time.
Hiya, Rich! Long time, no hear. I have it on good authority that Sams Dot learned its lesson from the Dagstine fiasco, and won’t be publishing any more of his stuff. So, it’s all good. I have the utmost respect for the new owner, Rick Moore, and wish him the best of luck with it.
