That didn’t take long. Update #9 was only added yesterday. Today, we’re up to #10.
It seems to me that it doesn’t matter how many different ways Nicky has set up to pay him. For one thing, GoFundMe isn’t a storefront through which he can sell his books. For another, nobody but he is buying his books. It’s questionable whether any of the authors who contributed stories to his old anthologies printed through Lulu even know he’s reissuing them with different ISBN numbers through another printer, which potentially violates their copyrights.
But, hey, it’s not begging, y’all, ’cause he has merch available to buy elsewhere.
Sheesh, Doesn’t this nitwit realize that no one wants his crappy anthologies or to pay his bills? He simply does not get it.
His decline is becoming ever more noticable. Not too long ago he used to overwrite everything, constantly adding superfluous words such as “had” and “would” to his sentences. “I had went to see the band that would played that night” etc. Now there are words missing from almost every sentence he writes, particularly verbs and prepositions. He is incapable of writing even the simplest line without screwing it up.
And don’t forget the ever-popular “as.” It’s hard to get a sentence out of him without an “as” in it. It implies some cause-and-effect that’s never there. “I had went to town where the store that would sell gum as I have a crush on Rod Serling.” His writing’s so bad I wonder if he can even actually read, or if paragraphs are just like “pictures” to him.
I know some terrible writers, but I’ve seldom run into any who can’t write a coherent SENTENCE once in a while. He can’t even do it by accident! I don’t know how he expects to be a writer when he can’t master the most basic building block of the job. Dude doesn’t know how to make a brick, and he thinks people want to buy houses he’s gonna build? Sheesh.
There’s a guy who lives near me who’s hopelessly schizophrenic AND fell out of a window and landed on his head… and he self-publishes books like Nicky. They’re completely crazy, but at least he does have an actual sentence here and there, and his stories have sort-of an idea in them.
In any case, Nicky’s cousin doesn’t need to worry — Nicky’s not crowdfunding. He’s just TRYING to crowdfund. He’s never made a dime off of it. But, still, it’d be nice if people were able to give him nothing in bitcoin, just like they currently give him nothing in dollars. The more options available for not giving him anything, the better! He should see if they accept pesos, too. That way his contributions can be in the form of zilch, zip, zero, AND nada.
What’s it going to take for this guy to learn that if you stalk and terrorize and harrass people and treat them like crap and say horrible things about “go fuck your dead mother,” etc., you can’t really count on the world for a lot of sympathy? If there were a NICE guy in his situation, I’d probably support him. As is, nope.
“I had write blog entry as chocolate milk. Pleases me. You bugchasers can had a nasty death.” — Nicky, probably
Yup, I getcha.
It is not Pacione as a bad writer that gets to me so much.
It is how Pacione promotes himself as an editor and publisher and ropes the naive into contributing to his projects (Tabloid Purposes and Ethereal Gazettes). And how he goes Mr Hyde on his contributors at the drop of a hat. And how his personality dooms any work in his TPs and EGs to obscurity. That is what irks me: his toxic touch on others than himself and his joy in carrying on “rivalries”. If he were just a self published bad author, I could ignore him.
BINGO!
I agree. His writing is laughable but him calling himself an editor and publisher is a whole other level of insulting/crazy. I’ve called him out on his inability to edit before but he doesn’t respond. I’ve kind of got him figured out now. He only responds to things he can plausibly deny. For example, if he’s on a rant about how people are always abusing him and those people remind him that he used to abuse his son and girlfriend, he will deny it because he can deny it. None of us were present when it was happening so it’s his word against hers. But if I point out to him that none of the stories he publishes in his magazine have been edited properly (or more accurately, edited at all) I’ll just get the usual blather and accusations about plagiarism. He can’t deny the lack of editing or blame someone else for it because he’s the sole “editor” of his self published books and magazines. I’ve even challenged him on other blogs to edit a chunk of text deliberately written in an unedited form. When I’ve posted said text, the kind of simple exercise you find in any first year college writing course, Nicky refuses to even acknowledge it. He knows he doesn’t have a clue how to edit, and if he ever took me up on the challenge it would immediately expose his inability. Nicky’s modus operandi is to blame other people for his failures. If he can’t blame other people he blames other things, lack of resources etc. If it’s something for which he can’t blame other people or things he simply ignores it. The one thing he never does is blame himself, as he is incapable of taking responsibility for his actions and shortcomings. He is 39 going on 15.
But don’t forget he uses 75 different opensource applications for everything he does so he’s brilliant and awesome and wonderful as an editor because he uses all these packages.
The fact the courts deemed him unfit and a danger to his son and he sent to many people involved death threats that he doesn’t even know the name the adopted parents gave him OR where his son lives says a lot about his denials being pure bullshit.
Nicky has become the ISIS of self publishing.
I’ve said the same thing about Tabetha Jones. If it were only herself, I wouldn’t give her a second thought. But she hurts people, ripping them off and abusing them until they get fed up with her and walk away. That’s the only reason I still blog about her. If she’d only piss off and do her “modeling” full time, I’d be delighted to never think about her again. Ever. Happily. Joyously.
Yep, I also feel bad for people caught in his debris-field. They think they’re getting “published” but they’re not… and even if he were a “small press” guy instead of just a print-on-demand thing, nobody wants to buy anything he puts out because nobody wants to support him… because of his abominable behavior. It’s not fair to them.
I found a strong indicator of his lack of sales. Turns out he’s an Amazon marketplace seller… and he’s gotten ONE feedback review. And that was put up in 2005.
http://www.amazon.com/sp?_encoding=UTF8&asin=194417138X&isAmazonFulfilled=0&isCBA=&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&orderID=&seller=A340ZJEK1LQ7DU&tab=&vasStoreID=
And apparently he botched that one sale, because here’s the review:
=========
4 out of 5 stars
The book has not arrived, yet.
By threethings on March 31, 2005.
And he wrote them back:
Hey did you get the copy? I was wondering what you thought of the book? Thank you for grabbing it from the author directly. I will have others as package deals too.
=========
Pretty kind person to give him four out of five stars when they didn’t even get the book yet! I guess it’s possible that he sold a couple more and they didn’t leave feedback, but from the evidence, he’s sold one book in ten years. Better check your rear-view mirror, Stephen King!
It’s kind of funny how in the selling details he goes on about ISBNs, as if the average customer really gives a damn about that:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/194417138X/ref=tmm_pap_new_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=&sr=
Most likely eight out of ten people you stop in the street aren’t going to know what an ISBN is, anyway… probably think it’s “one of them missiles we got aimed at Russia.”
